The Legator
Pledging charitable donations of shares in your Will to the Reed’s Foundation is a meaningful way to contribute to the Equity for Equity community whilst reducing the tax burden on your estate and ensuring the financial security of your beneficiaries.
By donating shares in your Will, you will:
- Receive updates on the work of the Reed’s Foundation and how you are helping bring about greater social parity.
- Leave a lasting legacy for future generations of disadvantaged children whilst retaining full control and use of the shares during your lifetime.
- Be remembered in perpetuity as all realised, share gifts will be allocated to our Andrew Reed Growth Fund, an endowment from which only interest on the capital is draw
The financial benefits to you of donating shares in your Will can include:
- Reducing the taxable value of your estate, potentially lowering the overall Inheritance Tax liability for your beneficiaries.
- Reducing the Inheritance Tax rate from 40% to 36% if you leave at least 10% of your estate to charity.
- Negating the need to pay Capital Gains Tax on the shares by either your estate or the charity.
As with all matters relating to Will planning, seeking advice from a solicitor is strongly advised.

“I have donated shares and also pledged a legacy to the Andrew Reed Foundation as these are both tax efficient methods of giving that allow me to increase my level of support whilst also ensuring my gift helps Foundation pupils in perpetuity. As a former Governor at Reed’s and a two-time Appeal President, knowing my gift will be helping future generations of Foundation pupils is personally incredibly rewarding.”
